Retro Mid Century Modern Jewelry • 1940's 1950's 1960's

The Retro jewelry period of the 1940's and 1950's was heavily influenced by the symmetry of earlier design eras along with the abstract designs and stylized forms of the machine age. Bolder and heavier Mid Century Modern jewelry styles made a statement of prosperity and optimism in post WWII jewelry, as colored gold and larger gemstones became popular in Retro Moderne 1940's jewelry fashion, due to changing trends and wartime shortages and controls. Vintage 1950's jewelry styles were further inspired by playful space age design themes, as well as open and airy asymmetrical forms, and textured surfaces, which gave way to fearless avant garde free form 1960's jewelry designs.
